| Modern Methods of Construction (MMC)
For too long now the Australian construction industry has been disadvantaged by a lack of access to ‘global best practice’ building materials, particularly with regard to the insulating integrity of the building envelope.
External Insulation and Finish (EIF) systems – the key to modern methods of construction – now dominate commercial and residential construction in the EU and the US. However, the Australian construction industry has only just started embracing these systems at a single-dwelling residential level, and are yet to utilise them in high-rise commercial and multi-level residential construction.
International studies have shown that polystyrene and phenolic EIF systems are rated more thermally efficient and leave a smaller carbon footprint than other traditional wall systems. These global best practice EIF systems ensure:
- Faster and cheaper building programs
- Substantially lower heating and cooling costs for householders and commercial leaseholders
- Cost-effective, efficient design solutions to the problems of thermal bridging, pressure equalisation, condensation and moisture
- Peace of mind, knowing that they are supported by extensive testing, detailed construction drawings and specifications.
They also allow:
- The demand for architectural diversity to be met
- The construction industry to build to future government building regulations and to realise the goal of carbon-neutral housing.
